“Suspicion always haunts the Guilty Mind.” As the quote by William Shakespeare, the recent Amazon Web series Guilty Minds is a legal drama series which is directed by Shefali Bhushan and Jayant Digambar Somalkar who serves as co-director.

The protagonists of the show are Kashaf Quaze and Deepak Rana. The series follows both Kashaf and Deepak battling in court against each other. With each new episode, there is a new case where they have to face each other. Each episode deals with issues like rape, artificial intelligence, water shortage and how those issues interact with the lives of these characters.

In episode 2, a 19-year-old boy while playing a video game, kills an innocent cab driver. While questioned in court, he replies that the game instructed him to do so. When Kashaf and Vandana gets his case, they tell the court that the boy was simply not in his senses. The game was causing him to be in some kind of trance.

The boy was also hallucinating in prison. He was seeing the dead cab driver right in front of him. The guilt was burning him down.

The effect of video games on the brain

If you see, more than 150 million people in the U.S play video games regularly or at least 3 hours a week. The average American gamer is a 35-year-old adult, with 72 percent of gamers aged 18 or older. For video game use by children, most parents — 71 percent — indicate that video games have a positive influence on their child’s life.

Video game sales continue to increase year on year. In 2016, the video game industry sold more than 24.5 billion games — up from 23.2 billion in 2015, and 21.4 billion in 2014.

The top three best-selling video games of 2016 were Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, Battlefield 1, and Grand Theft Auto V. These games fall into the first-person shooter or action-adventure genres — the top two genres, accounting for 27.5 percent and 22.5 percent of sales, respectively. First-person shooter and action genres often stand accused of stirring aggression and causing violence and addiction.

Decades of research examining video gaming and violence have failed to reach consensus among scientists. Scientists have been unable to find a causal link between playing video games and acts of violence in the real world.

The reaction of cast on the audience

The cast has done a fabulous job acting the characters. Shriya Pilgaonkar and Varun Mitra acting as rivals in the court, have done an amazing job. The highlight of the show is the 19-year-old boy played by Manav Arora. The boy killing an innocent cab driver in a video game can be a case of murder, but Shriya Pilgaonkar playing the role of Kashyap, defended the case by saying the boy was in a trance of the video game which made him kill the cab driver.

The boy hallucinates the cab driver in prison. His guilt makes him realize his mistake and he apologizes to the hallucinated cab driver. After several attempts at the court, the boy is sentenced to 10 years of prison for the murder of the cab driver.
