Chief Minister’s Ten Point Programme

Vanbandhu Kalyan Yojana which was launched in 2007, with the Eleventh Plan allocation of Rs.15,000 crore for speedy and faster development of tribal areas in each state. The new package envisages re-engineering the process.

This scheme aims to create an enabling environment for the need based outcome oriented holistic development of the tribal people. The process envisages to make sure that all the intended marginalized groups benefit under the schemes of Central and State Governments. They reach the target groups by convergence of resources through an appropriate mechanism.

Strategies

1. To strengthen the institutions which are meant for delivery of goods and services with adequate administrative, technical and financial powers like the Tribal Welfare Department as a nodal department, Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA), Integrated Tribal Development Projects etc.

2. Converging the scattered resources as well as activities which is undertaken under several components.

Minor Forest Produce (MFP)

These are more often not determined by the traders instead of self-sustained process of demand and supply. Thus implementing a scheme to ensure that such forest dwellers are not deprived of their due. Under this scheme maximum selling price for MFP is being implemented in schedule V States initially. Web based portal has also been developed which indicate current price of MFPs on real time basis across different mandis of the States.

1. Tendu Leaves

2. Bamboo

3. Mahuwa Seeds

4. Sal Leaf

5. Sal Seed

6. Lac

7. Chironjee

8. Wild Honey

9. Myrobalan

10. Tamarind

11. Gums (Gum Karaya) and

12. Karanji.

The Scheme also referred to the Forests Rights Act as landmark legislation to recognize the pre-existing rights of tribals and other traditional forest dwellers.

Vision

To double the income of every tribal family, with special focus on migrant and vulnerable tribal groups.

Activities

1. To create more employment productivity in the agricultural sector

2. Increase in animal husbandry and diary

3. Skill training for tribal youth

Wadi Development

The Wadi project has combined the use of horticulture as well as woody trees, to produce crops, fuel and wood. This system essentially manages agriculture effectively. The Wadi Program is an initiative of small holdings, and has proven to be a great success. The program has led to an increase in fruits, flowers and vegetables and also provided food security to the tribals.
